Wimer's Mill

Our Wimer's Mill brick tiles (3.75"x7"), named after our 18th century home and the first thin bricks we crafted, offer a distinctly worn brick floor look and feel. Smaller than our standard floor tiles, these tiles feature rugged, textured surfaces and highly uneven edges, designed to emulate bricks that have aged gracefully over 200 years.

Here’s how we created our Wimer's Mill tile floor:
  1. We pressed a few tiny pebbles from the streambed into the wet mortar between the tiles.
  2. We initially sealed the floor with a semi-gloss sealer so that the tiny pebbles would shine through
  3. We painted a water-soluble black shoe polish into the "cracks" in the mortar. When we wiped the floor with a damp cloth, the black stayed in the grooves, but wiped off the top.
  4. We resealed the floor, to trap the black polish

The result is a stunning floor with a glazed brick tile that looks ancient. We are happy to share with you all the ways you can play with the installation of your Inglenook brick tiles to "age" them even more!
